“Man-o-pause” is the not especially witty term sometimes used to describe a condition known as andropause. While all men experience a decline in testosterone as they age, only some experience andropause, which is similar but also very different from the menopausal changes that affect women. Men suffering from andropause may experience a lack of endurance and feel like they are unable to go as far for as long as they used to. Many women recognize the symptoms of menopause as they start, including night sweats, hot flashes, and even mood swings. But men may be less alert to the changes that come with andropause, in part due to a lack of information about the subject. Andropause symptoms are often just chalked up to aging, but the symptoms that come with it, such as a loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, mood swings, and more, are likely treatable.
