Most women have heard of hot flashes as one of the most typical symptoms of menopause, and many women know that hot flashes occur with varying frequency and intensity for different women during menopause, but they may not know why hot flashes present themselves differently depending on the woman. Studies have shown a variety of factors that influence the severity and frequency of hot flashes, and how overall health has a large effect. A recent study identified four different types of “hot flashers,” each group characterized by the timing and duration of their hot flashes. This discovery, along with other studies identifying the factors that increase the likelihood of hot flashes, helps provide insight into managing menopause symptoms in a more targeted way.
